What therapy will look like

The most common range of treatment is about 8-12 sessions. Some people will have less sessions and others may engage in counseling for years. The treatment plan and goals are determined by both of us in a collaborative process.

I am open for telehealth (virtual) sessions for people ages 13+ that are within the state limits at the time of the session. I have a limited availability of in-person sessions in Lubbock, Texas for people aged 5+.

A variety of modalities and techniques will be used depending on the client and their needs. I will often incorporate play, games, activities, etc. in sessions. Sessions will have different levels of structure depending on the client needs and wants (i.e. worksheets or a formal therapeutic process may be utilized or may not be). I am trained in both Trauma Focused CBT and Sandtray therapies, but I do not use these with everyone. Regardless of the modalities and techniques used, the client can expect a welcoming, non-judgment, relaxed environment. I incorporate humor into my sessions frequently, especially with children and adolescents.

Some sessions will involve a lot of psychoeducation (me teaching you about the brain, the way out thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected, and some of the research in the field). Most of the sessions will involve setting goals, learning skills, and monitoring your progress. Some sessions might be really intense and cause a lot of uncomfortable feelings. You might laugh. You might cry. You might get angry. You might not like something I say or an observation I make. Who knows! Therapy can be unpredictable at times.
