Insurance Lingo
Deductible - the amount of money you have to spend before insurance will help you pay for sessions
Co-Insurance - the percentage of the session fee insurance will pay after you meet your deductible
Out-of-pocket Maximum - the maximum amount of money insurance will make you spend before everything is fully covered
Co-Pay - the flat fee you have to pay for sessions (insurance will cover the remaining cost)
In-Network - the healthcare professional is contracted with the insurance company and is therefore usually available to you for a cheaper cost (also referred to as "paneled" with an insurance company)
Out-of-Network - the healthcare professional is not contracted with the insurance company and therefore limitations may apply (i.e. you may have to pay full price for their services)
Reimbursement - the amount of money insurance companies will pay for the services provided to you (generally the clinician is reimbursed through their contracted rates, however you may be reimbursed for some or all of the services provided to you if you are using an out-of-network provider)
Superbill - a "receipt" of the services you paid for that can be submitted to your insurance company for potential reimbursement (generally given to patients that are claiming out-of-network benefits)
Claim - the form a healthcare professional submits to your insurance company on your behalf so they can pay the clinican their contracted rate (this is how the clinician gets paid for the services they provide to you)
