License, Education, & Experience
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (TX License # 82662) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (TX License #17390). I received both my bachelors degree in Psychology and Sociology and my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Tech University. I am currently a doctoral student at Mississippi College working towards my Doctorate of Professional Counseling degree.
I have worked in schools as a paraprofessional for the special education department, a teacher, and a school counselor. I also have experience in criminal justice settings, community mental health clinics, residential treatment facilities, and volunteering/mentoring. I enjoy working with people of all ages, but a bulk of my experience has been with adolescents and young adults. I have experience with people who come to therapy for a variety of reasons, but many of my clients have substance use issues, family or relationship issues, behavioral issues and/or have been impacted by the criminal justice system in some way. I have worked with a lot of people who have experienced trauma and abuse as well as clients who were mandated to complete therapy services.
Personal Life
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching tv/movies, watching football, going out to eat, and sleeping.
I went into the counseling profession because I grew up noticing a lot of mental health issues were being left unsaid and discussions about "important stuff" were generally avoided. I also saw first hand how the legal system could impact a family and its individuals. This is where my passion for helping current or previously incarcerated individuals and their families developed. I hope to inspire people who have endured hardships in life. When things are difficult, it can be hard to feel hopeful and happy. My goal is to provide some light when everything feels dark and hopeless.
